Newspaper deliverer attacked, suspect arrested after chase

A newspaper boy was attacked on Friday morning by a man on the Groeseindstraat in Tilburg. The 24-year-old suspect was after the wireless earphones, the bicycle and money from the delivery person.

The newspaper deliverer was busy with his neighborhood around a quarter past six. He was approached in English by a man who asked for directions to the station. The boy showed him the way, but instead of leaving he started snooping in the boy’s bags. He wanted the wireless earphones, his bike and money.

The delivery man managed to get away when two cyclists drove by. He called the police and gave a clear description. A motorcycle police officer encountered the suspect at the Gasthuisring.

He admitted that he had harassed the delivery man and thought he could continue on his way. When he realized that the officer wanted to arrest him, a struggle ensued between the suspect and the officer. The suspect ran and the officer followed him.

The officer requisitioned the bicycle of a passer-by and the officer got hold of the man in the Wilhelmina Park. The suspect had no intention of cooperating until the officer pulled out his electroshock weapon.

The 24-year-old man from Bulgaria was taken to the police station after the chase. The passer-by who had to hand in his bicycle has received the bicycle back.
