Newcastle United is actually one of the best teams in the Premier League. But there is little to be seen of it at the moment. The coach is angry.

With a win, Newcastle United could have reached the top half of the table. And their opponents, West Ham United, had only picked up four points in nine games up to that point. Nevertheless, Champions League participants Newcastle lost the game on Sunday 1:3. Coach Eddie Howe was served.

“This was not the Newcastle team we have seen in previous seasons,” Howe said after the game. After an early lead by the guests, the team lost the thread at the London Stadium – and suffered their next away defeat.

His team lacked dynamism, physical presence and energy. At halftime, the coach responded with three substitutions – including top scorer Nick Woltemade. However, this did not bring about a noticeable change. Howe said: “I could have replaced anyone.”

Howe felt that this simply reflected the current state of his team. “It’s very rare that I feel that way. I’ve never experienced that in my time as Newcastle manager.”
