The nouveau riche Newcastle United made another defensive move just before the transfer window closed. The Magpies have announced the signing of central defender Dan Burn. The 29-year-old comes from Brighton & Hove Albion and has a contract until 2024. According to reports, both clubs had agreed on a fee of around 15 million euros.
Newcastle’s transfer spending surges to over €100m with new signings Chris Wood (30), Kieran Trippier (31), Bruno Guimarães (25), Matt Targett (26) and Burn – no club spent more over the winter. Newcastle, threatened with relegation, is 80 percent in the hands of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. The market value of Burn is 3.5 million euros – and thus only around a quarter of the rumored transfer fee. The veteran has made 83 appearances for Brighton and Fulham FC in the Premier League so far, and he had his highest market value at the end of 2019 – €5 million.

NUFC Coach Eddie Howe said: “We were very keen to strengthen our defense and Dan fits the profile we were looking for. He’s left-footed, which further balances our defence, and he’ll be a great addition to the group.”
