New York stocks end: Slight gains – Dow on record

NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – With temporary highs and a friendly closing trend, the US stock markets emerged from the very quiet post-Christmas trading. Support came from lower bond market yields. Interest rates on ten-year government bonds fell on Wednesday. Investors therefore continue to rely on lower capital market interest rates.

The Dow Jones Industrial (Dow Jones 30 Industrial) climbed to a record high of 37,683.70 points during trading and closed 0.30 percent higher at 37,656.52 points. The market-wide S&P 500 gained 0.14 percent to 4,781.58 points. The technology-heavy NASDAQ 100 also reached a record high and ultimately rose by 0.17 percent to 16,906.80 points./edh/he
