New York State declares state of emergency over monkey pox | Abroad

The state of emergency, which will last at least until August 28, makes it possible to vaccinate more groups of people against monkey pox. Pharmacists, midwives and emergency services staff are now also eligible for vaccination. The registration of cases of illness will also be improved, so that health authorities can react more quickly.

New York declared monkey pox a direct public health threat on Thursday. The city of San Francisco, where 261 infections have been counted, already introduced a state of emergency, a step that New York is now following. More than 4,900 cases of monkeypox have been reported in the United States, according to the CDC federal health service.
