The world has officially begun the celebrations for the arrival of the new year. The line of New Year 2026 it runs across the Pacific time zones, before moving progressively westward. The celebrations were opened, as per tradition, by the inhabitants of KiritimatiChristmas Island, when 11 am struck in Italy on Wednesday 31 December. The baton was then passed to New Zealand and, later, to Australia. To Auckland the celebrations started at noon here in Italy. The municipality of Sydneyhowever, decided to bring the fireworks show a little earlier to also allow families with children to participate in the event before local midnight. The New Year’s Eve race now continues through theAsiafrom the great Chinese metropolises to the ice festivals of Harbin, and then touching the Old Continent and Africa. In Italy the appointment with 2026 will coincide with that of 45 other countries. The last ones to toast the new year? The inhabitants of islands of American Samoa.
