IVBO (Intermunicipal Partnership for Waste Removal and Processing in Bruges and the Ommeland) came to collect the vegetable, fruit and garden waste in the city center of Bruges on Monday. Until last week, residual waste was also collected, but from now on this collection will only take place every two weeks. This clearly takes some getting used to for many people. The residual waste bags remain, whether they have an added value sticker or not.

Residual waste

“It’s going very smoothly,” said Pieter Marechal, chairman of IVBO. “Of the organic waste that is now collected, we see that two-thirds are presented in containers and one-third in bags. This is still allowed for the time being, because there is a transition period.”

“We do notice that residual waste bags are still being put outside. We are asking people to point out that the new waste plan is now in force and that residual waste will not be collected until next week. We are therefore making a warm appeal to put the residual waste bags back inside.”
