New teaser for Netflix series “1899” from “Dark” makers

After “Dark” it should be even darker. Two years after the third and final season of the mystery series, showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are back with a new project: “1899”. As part of “Geeked Week” – a virtual event for fans of action and fantasy – Netflix released the first teaser for “1899” on June 6th. There was also a look behind the scenes.

Little is known about the plot. Officially, it says: “The eight episodes tell of mysterious events during the journey of an emigrant ship from Europe to New York.” But this journey takes an unexpected turn when you suddenly discover a second ship that has been missing for months. According to Netflix, this “turns the passage to the promised land into a nightmarish mystery.” Here the teaser.

As with the hit series “Dark”, Friese and bo Odar act as showrunners, with Friese also working as an author and bo Odar directing. The leading role was cast by the British Emily Beecham, who was awarded Best Actress at the Cannes Festival in 2019 for her role in the science fiction drama “Little Joe”.

More action than in “Dark”

Fans can learn a little more about “1899” in the Behind The Scenes clip. “Dark wasn’t about action, this is an action series with a lot of violence, fights, running and screaming,” explains showrunner Baran bo Odar.

They are particularly proud of “The Volume” – a huge LED wall that is considered the future of film shooting. Instead of an expensive trip to shoot on location or a green screen, the new invention aims to make life easier for the actors. For example, the sea is produced on the wall so that it can be shot in the studio. It is not yet clear when the series will be released.
