According to a government official, the new US tariffs for imports from abroad will only come into force on August 7, not already this Friday.

The US government official continued to confirm the German Press Agency on Thursday evening (local time) that this also applies to 15 percent of the EU. US President Donald Trump had previously signed a decree on the new customs regulations.

So far, the Republican had mentioned August 1st as an appointment for the introduction of new tariffs. This date was also mentioned in an EU overview of the recently concluded agreement between the European Union and the United States-there it said the tariffs of 15 percent: “From August 1, the USA will apply this maximum customs rate to the majority of EU exports.”

The government officer replied to the dpa to the question of why the start date was not on this Friday: they wanted to leave more time to implement the new rules.
