Saunas and steam baths, an extra slide and possibly an outdoor pool in the future. A majority of the city council in Hoogeveen agreed with those extras for the new swimming pool to be built.

That turned out tonight during the city council. The swimming complex that should open in 2029 was already equipped with a slide and competition pool in the first plans. Municipal interests, PvdA and GroenLinks added a little extra.

They want an extra slide for young people, saunas and a ‘wet connection’. That means that with your wet coffee you can walk from the inside to a lawn.

The three parties received support from a number of other groups and achieved a majority for all proposals. According to Alderman Ronald Klok (VVD), those wishes are also feasible.

It was also asked to investigate the option for an outdoor pool in the future. The arrival is not yet certain, but a majority of politics wants an investigation into the possibilities. Klok agreed.

Hoogeveen wants to allocate 36 million euros for the new swimming complex. A huge amount that could be higher due to the addition of saunas and an extra slide.

Opponents were therefore not pleased with the changes to the plan. Among other things, the CDA and the VVD fear that the costs will rise enormously. The SP fears a debacle similar to the ice rink that never came.

The SGP, the CDA and the VVD still told the municipal administration to issue no more than the agreed budget. In the end, the groups could not find a majority for that.
