The catering businesses Nata, Maddox and Nomma were the first to embrace the new system. Their new terraces immediately attract attention. “The result is worth seeing,” says Alderman of Middenstand Wouter Allijns. “From now on, their customers can enjoy a fresh and stylish look. That is inspiring: other entrepreneurs are now also making plans to invest.”

The city collaborated with experienced players from the sector for the design, including Renson, Winsol, Brustor, Van Hoof and Ostyn. The UNESCO heritage character of the Grote Markt and the protected monuments in the area were taken into account. The terraces therefore remain light structures that preserve the open character of the square.
