After a wave of branch closings and eviction lawsuits at the beginning of the year, the insolvent shoe branchist Görtz is now planning to expand again.

Although the bankruptcy proceedings are running. And this has recently also been extended to the Austrian daughter, owner Bolko Kissling is driving the realignment of the company. A new branch has already opened in Wiesbaden, and further stores are expected to follow in Hamburg shortly, Kissling confirmed to fashionunited. The managing director had taken over Görtz in 2023 from a previous bankruptcy.

The new openings are a store for the lifestyle concept announced in August 2024, which, in addition to shoes, also includes clothing. “The approach will be fashionable at the same price level and will be reinforced by our new exclusive brands,” said Kissling.

Particular attention is paid to the Labels Looks by Wolfgang Joop and Zanzibar, which should shape the collection together with the own brand. Both brands will move into the stores with significantly expanded ranges in autumn/winter and will also be available online from November.

The expansion follows the bankruptcy requested in January, which led to a comprehensive wave of closure. Insolvency administrator Gideon Böhm, opened on June 1, from the Hamburg District Court, brought about a “broken glass” found. Since then, all locations in the Hamburg home of the traditional company have had to close. However, some branches – including in Dresden and Oldenburg – could also remain open after the opening of the procedure.
