Work on the new San Siro stadium will begin in four months or at least, this is the request made today by Milan and Inter at Palazzo Marino. The phrase makes an impression because for many fans the new stadium is a distant idea – the first match is scheduled for 2031 – but reality says that the layout of the area around the Meazza will soon begin to change.
what will be done
—
The clubs, in a meeting in the Municipality, presented a proposal to the technicians of Palazzo Marino which provides for the first reclamations in the area of the current car parks, where the new stadium should be built, and the moving of some turnstiles, the gate and the video surveillance system. The turnstiles at entrances 7, 8, 9 and 10, those behind the museum and the red stand, will be moved closer to the stadium and will not be usable for the 2026-27 season.
what changes
—
Two consequences in particular, if everything is approved. The first: the works will make some car parks unusable, so the clubs are studying alternative solutions. It’s about finding new parking spaces in the San Siro area, inevitably not in the immediate vicinity of the stadium. A change of habits will be necessary especially for visiting fans: their buses will not be able to park close to San Siro and fans will arrive at the stadium on shuttles. The second: fans will access the stadium through a limited number of entrances.
the next steps
—
Milan and Inter are now awaiting approval from Palazzo Marino, after the Municipality’s technicians have examined the documentation delivered today. Subsequently, an ok from the Police Headquarters and Prefecture will be necessary. Reasonably, it will take several weeks. Then, in 2027, major works will begin on the Patroclo tunnel, the tunnel that runs a few dozen meters from San Siro and will have to be diverted. The construction site for San Siro can already be seen in the distance.
