New Red Bull RB20, Newey’s idea: there are vertical air intakes!

Tonight the RB20 presents the main central vertical section air intakes, useful for capturing the air flows coming from the front and revolutionizing the cooling system. Follow the live streaming presentation here

After the first spy photos of the shakedown of the Red Bull RB20 carried out at Silverstone two days ago, breaking rumors emerge from our sources that speak of an RB20 where the extremes of the sides, or rather of the lower channel between the bellies and the bottom, it would have distorted the shape of the cooling air intakes. These, in fact, would have been reduced to vertical slits placed on the sides of the passenger compartmentpractically in the position where the inlet of the bypass duct is located on the Ferrari SF-24.

In this way Newey and his collaborators would have achieved the objective of capturing part of the flow that laps the car in the lower part of the chassis, directed by the elements of the front suspension. The solution, if confirmed by the images of the car which will be presented this evening at 8.30pm (live streaming below), justifies the adoption of the large circular section ducts (bazooka) placed at the base of the bonnet and arched downwards, beyond the increase in the section of the dynamic intake and the bonnet, identifiable in the shakedown photos, to guarantee adequate heat exchange to the power unit; in short, a revolution under the skin. Will it also be a gamble?
