Defense has purchased a hundred radars that warn of approaching drones. This drone detection gives the army more time to take action. “This has to do with incidents in which drones were spotted above Volkel air base and Eindhoven Airport,” Defense said.
The drones that circled above air bases in Brabant are causing a lot of unrest. The Dutch company Robin Radar will make the radars. The company and Defense strive to deliver all radars as quickly as possible. The first copies will be delivered on Friday, after signing the contract.
Various units within Defense can use the radar. The systems, which can distinguish drones from birds and other moving objects, are also being distributed to other air bases. All radars are expected to be delivered next year. The corresponding vehicles will arrive in early 2026.
Last Friday and Saturday, drones were seen above the air bases in Volkel and Eindhoven. Resources were deployed to chase away the drones.
The drone incidents are causing growing concern in the House of Representatives. Outgoing State Secretary Gijs Tuinman announced earlier this week that Defense will invest more in combating drones.
