New prospect! Is Niclas Füllkrug still changing?

Recently, Werder Bremen did not point too much to the departure of striker Niclas Füllkrug. Although there were rumors that Eintracht Frankfurt was interested, these did not become concrete. Shortly before the end of the change period, however, a new applicant is said to have been added.

In 2023, Niclas Füllkrug has so far not been able to build on his top performances from the year of promotion with Werder Bremen. In the back series of the 2021/2022 season, the attacker made a decisive contribution to the return to the Bundesliga with 14 goals in 16 matches and then laid the foundation for later relegation with ten goals in 14 games in the upper house.

The reward: At the age of 29, the late starter was nominated for the German national team for the first time and was allowed to go straight to the World Cup in Qatar. After all, he was one of the few positive phenomena there.

Since the turn of the year, however, there has been a sand in the gears at Füllkrug. Although seven goals in 17 appearances are not bad to read, injuries have noticeably damaged the rhythm of the nine.

Nevertheless, the veteran is still the sporting flagship of Werder, who started the new season catastrophically. At the same time, the filling jug on the Weser, which is still bound until 2025, is considered silverware that could still be turned into money if the offer is right. For years there has been a gigantic hole in the green and white till.

Werder Bremen: New prospect for Niclas Füllkrug

At 20 million euros, Bremen’s pain threshold should be in the cause of the filling pitcher – a lot of money for a 30-year-old with no experience in European club competitions.

Accordingly, those interested in the striker have not yet queued up, and speculation about AC Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt has not materialized.

Shortly before the end of the day, Fulham FC could bring a breath of fresh air: According to information from the “Evening Standard”, the previous year’s tenth in the Premier League should prepare a last-minute offer for a filling jug.

With the Cottagers, the German could fill the gap – aptly Füllkrug’s nickname – left by top clipper Aleksandar Mitrovic (2022/2023 with 14 goals in 24 games) after his move to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, which was accompanied by many background noises.

In return, Fulham took the equivalent of almost 53 million euros. So it should not fail because of the necessary money for a filling jug transfer.

Rather, it is questionable whether the native of Hanover sees the Londoners as a suitable next step in his career. After all, goalkeeper Bernd Leno has a current teammate of the offensive man with the English.
