Alderman of Sport Olivier Strubbe: “The non-profit organization Basics has been looking for a base for further developing their activities in the area of freerunning and Urban Sports for some time now. That possibility was available on the former site of Stelplaats De Lijn in Assebroek. The plans there were concrete, but are now being delayed due to the need for thorough remediation of the grounds.”
“The non-profit organization Basics was already incurring costs to develop the De Lijn site. In order to offer them the opportunity to continue their operation and to compensate for the costs incurred, we looked together for a temporary solution. We found it in the Judo hall of the Jan Breydel Stadium. The occupancy was still minimal for other sports, but the rough, urban context offers a suitable setting for the further development of Urban Sports. The blocks and Judo mats from Sport Brugge can be used here, supplemented with the non-profit organization’s own material.”
