New operating rooms at ZorgSaam contribute to close collaboration with UZ Gent | NOW

ZorgSaam is proud of the new operating complex in Terneuzen. According to the hospital, this is a major improvement for patients, employees and the region.

The new building was officially opened on Friday afternoon by Eric Mortier, managing director of Ghent University Hospital. The fact that he was asked to do so is a sign of the increasingly close collaboration between ZorgSaam and UZ Gent. It is expected that the modern operation complex will only further strengthen this.

A neurosurgeon from Ghent is already partially operating at ZorgSaam. The intention is that more care will be provided from Ghent in Terneuzen within the foreseeable future. Zeelanders are often referred to Ghent for highly specialized care. Furthermore, both hospitals work closely together in the field of training and exchange knowledge and employees.

17.5 million euros invested

ZorgSaam’s new operating complex took about 2.5 years in total. The hospital has invested 17.5 million euros in it. First, four new operating rooms were built. Subsequently, one of the old operating rooms was converted into a fifth OR and the recovery room for operated patients, the work and rest rooms for staff and the sterilization department were completely modernized.

The complex is an improvement in many ways. The operating medical specialists and the OR staff have much more space and the rooms are lighter, clearer and smarter furnished. More patients can now be helped. In addition, it is a quieter environment for patients, which means that they are often less nervous before an operation.
