Doing justice to all regions in the Netherlands and their distinctive strength is important to the cabinet, because every region counts. The government program specifically mentions regions on the edges of the country and the need for tailor-made solutions. With the start of the National Program for Vital Regions (NPVR) in 2025, the focus will be on livable regions, a sustainable and accessible level of facilities and a healthy and promising future for residents.
Minister Uitermark of the Interior and Kingdom Relations: “I believe in the strength of the region. I notice how people feel connected to the place where they live. They are proud of their village, city or region and enjoy living there. Each region has its own character and strength. As a government, we are working together with the regions to keep it that way and to further strengthen it. We will do this from 2025 with the National Vital Regions Program.”
Every region counts
There is much to be proud of in the regions on the edges of the Netherlands, but there are also concerns. Are there enough homes to keep starters? Will there still be a GP for me when I get older? Can I find enough staff for my company? Sometimes the border with a neighboring country plays a role in this. These are concerns that this cabinet shares with the regions and for which they are joining forces within the NPVR. With this program, the government and the region are entering into a long-term partnership. This concerns the Head of North Holland, North and East Groningen, South East Friesland, North Fryslân, South and East Drenthe, Twente, Achterhoek, North Limburg, Central Limburg, South Limburg and Zeeland. Flanders.
Together with these regions, a plan for the region will be drawn up in 2025 and a subsequent action agenda will be drawn up. Local authorities, social partners, market parties and resident initiatives are also involved. The government will also ensure that government policy works better for all regions and therefore for all people in the Netherlands, by critically examining its own working methods. In this way we work together on powerful regions, now and in the future.
