The six parties that will form the new coalition in Moerdijk have published their administrative agreement for the coming years. They once again emphasize how important they think it is that residents receive long-term clarity about all expansion plans for industry and energy infrastructure. They also insist on ‘generous compensation’ for people who have to leave.

There has been talk for some time about the closure of the village of Moerdijk, one of the eleven centers of the municipality. More clarity about this is expected from the government in June.

“We do not think it is human that the residents of Moerdijk have to deal with this uncertainty again and again,” the agreement states.

“That is why we have sent a clear signal to the national government and the province: the Moerdijkers must receive clarity and perspective for the long term.” To this end, governments must work together and view projects coherently, ‘with a view to 2050’.

Municipality wants to take responsibility
Informant Onno Hoes writes that the municipality is ‘prepared to take responsibility’ for the projects, which are nationally important for the energy transition and making industry more sustainable.

“In return, generous (financial) support is expected for both residents and companies in the municipality of Moerdijk and specifically for the community in the Moerdijk core.”

Stable municipal government is ‘crucial’ for future major tasks
VVD, Onhouden Moerdijk, CDA, Moerdijk Lokaal, ChristenUnie and BBM/BBB form the coalition. “I am convinced that the parties can form a stable municipal government that is a reliable partner for both the local community and other authorities. This is crucial with the major challenges facing us in the coming years,” explains informant Onno Hoes.

The new mayor and aldermen also want to focus on more housing construction. On a social level, they announce that ‘a greater demand is made for personal responsibility’.

They hope to save costs and keep care available for ‘our most vulnerable residents’.
