Mitchell Lawrie is only 15 years old but is already considered one of the hottest stocks in darts. Now the teenager has thrown a 9-darter and made history.
Teenage sensation Mitchell Lawrie continues to make big headlines. The young Scot threw a nine-darter on the JDC Advanced Tour. He achieved this in the opening game of the day when he won 4-1 against Ethan Hawden and averaged 103 points.
For a few days now, Lawrie has also become the youngest WDF world number one of all time. Most recently he won several tournaments on the World Darts Federation (WDF) circuit – including the Slovak Open, the Slovak Masters and the Scottish Classic.
The 15-year-old is considered one of the biggest young darts hopes since Luke Littler.
Lawrie had already made history in December when he became the first teenager to reach the WDF World Darts Championship final and win the JDC World Championship.
Compare to Luke Littler
He was also the youngest player to win three WDF adult titles.
World champion Luke Littler congratulated Lawrie on his first senior title in December. He can understand the comparisons between the two.
“He’s a very, very good player at such a young age as me. Of course I think about my record of winning the WDF Open,” Littler said.
“So that’s another title that he took away from me, but he’s a very good player. But at the moment he just has to stick with it because he has to wait. But there are a lot of opportunities to play in tournaments and win at the moment.”
What advice does he give the 15-year-old?
“You just gotta keep going. You gotta keep going,” Littler said.
“Because I think when I was 14, 15, I thought, Oh, it’ll be another year before I can do the Development Tour. He definitely thinks the same way, the way he plays. So just keep going and yeah, you’ll be on the tour.”
