Stefan Horngacher’s term as coach of the German ski jumpers ended on Sunday. The Austrian will remain connected to the sport.
“There are a few ideas that I have in my head, but first I will play a lot of guitar, collect a lot of mushrooms and ride a bike,” said Horngacher on “ZDF” about his future after ski flying in Planica.
The 56-year-old wants to remain loyal to ski jumping. “I’ve done nothing other than ski jumping since I was ten years old. I can’t do anything else,” said Horngacher.
The Austrian took over the German ski jumpers from his predecessor Werner Schuster in 2019. The long-awaited triumph of a DSV eagle at the Four Hills Tournament did not succeed under his direction. Philipp Raimund provided the big shining moment with his Olympic victory on the normal hill this winter.
Horngacher’s successor has been chosen
Horngacher is leaving the German ski jumping team and his successor has already been chosen. But the Austrian didn’t want to let the name come out on “ZDF”.
“I wish my successor all the best and, above all, that he brings the team to a better level than today,” said Horngacher, referring to the last competition of the season. Karl Geiger took eighth place as the best DSV eagle in ski flying in Planica on Sunday. Andreas Wellinger came eleventh. Behind them are Pius Paschke (19th) and Philipp Raimund (28th).
Wellinger and Geiger in particular had “big difficulties” this winter. “I hope that he can manage it again and then get good offspring after that,” said Horngacher.
According to “SID” information, “there are many indications” that Andreas Mitter will be promoted to head coach of the DSV Stars. When asked by “SID”, the German Ski Association did not want to comment on the name.
