One of the SUVs most loved by Italians has been completely renewed and is initially offered with the 145 HP 1.2 turbo petrol mild hybrid, as an alternative to 100% electric. Here are the first impressions of the compact Sport Utility

November 24 – 00:01 – BARCELONA (SPAIN)

It is a notable step forward that Jeep has taken with the Compass, now in its third generation, the first native since – officially since January 16, 2021 – Stellantis exists. Yes, because the previous series was an FCA product, while now the synergy with the former PSA is evident (but not too much). What is certain is that the Jeep technicians have done an enormous job to customize what, in fact, remains a platform shared with various brands of the group, the Stla Medium. Also for this reason the car now measures 144 mm longer (now 4.55 meters), 85 mm more in width and 159 mm more in wheelbase, with a total of 34 liters of front storage compartments, 550 liters of luggage compartment (45 more than the second series) and Cd lower than 0.3, in order to make the electric variants as efficient as possible. Which, among other things, reach 650 km of autonomy.

1 Jeep Compass: how it is made, the design

The look of the new Jeep Compass is more squared than ever, decidedly more squared and less rounded than on the previous generation. The front remains seven typical slits synonymous with Jeep recognisability, now characterized by illuminated strips, while key elements such as cameras and radar are now positioned higher up to reduce the risk of damage during off-road driving. Overall, in person, the proportions seemed successful and captivating, sporty to the eye and intriguing even for the years to come, with stylistic dictates that may remain valid for the foreseeable future. The heights from the ground, the approach, breakover and departure angles and the other “off-road” aesthetic characteristics make it “appealing” to the eyes, as well as a completely new car, if you compare it to the second series.

2 Jeep Compass: how it’s made, the interior

The interiors are characterized by plastics wisely covered by a layer of soft-touch materials, which make the dashboard, tunnel and door panels (at least, in the upper part) pleasant to the touch and to the eye, with contrasting stitching. It goes without saying that the comfort is one of the central elements of the car, with comfortable seating and plenty of space even for the occupants of the second row. Extremely fluid gear selectorrotor: a pleasant sensation, just as it is pleasant to hold the steering wheel, with a sporty cut. The buttons on the steering wheel, the driving mode selector in the central tunnel, the one-pedal driving on the electric one, the visibility, the cameras for maneuvering and the 10″25 digital dashboard have also been promoted. A near en plein, however, due to the “fault” of the car’s navigator, with imprecise indications near the turns. Not bad, given the compatibility with Apple Car Play and Android Auto and, consequently, the use of the navigator preferred between Waze, Google Maps, Maps and more. There is a level 2 Adas package.

3 Jeep Compass: how it’s made, the technique

At the first stage, that of the launch, there are mainly two cards on the table from which to draw: on the one hand there is the 1.2 three-cylinder turbo petrol mild hybrid 145 hp in total combined with the 6-speed eDct6 automatic transmission; on the other the alternative electric with 74 kWh net battery for 213 HP of maximum power and 500 km of autonomy. These two versions will arrive in Italian dealerships between December 2025 and January 2026, while a little later it will be the turn of the 1.6 plug-in hybrid with a total of 195 hp with 7-speed automatic gearbox eDct7, as well as two further 100% electric alternatives. Both with a net 96 kWh battery, they stand out for their technical characteristics: in the first case there is always front-wheel drive, as on all the previously mentioned variants, with 231 HP and up to 650 km of autonomy; in the other case a second electric motor makes its appearance at the rear, thus providing all-wheel drive and a total of 375 hp for 600 km of autonomy. The electric ones can be charged with the charger supplied by the house up to 22 kW, or with HPC columns up to 160 kW of power.

4 Jeep Compass: how it’s made, off-road technology

Although four out of five variants are front-wheel drive, Jeep Compass does not give up those properties that have always distinguished it. In fact, let’s talk about attack, breakover and departure angles of 20°, 15° and 26° respectively, with a minimum height of the car from the ground of 200 mm and with a fording capacity of 470 mm. Added to these features are ad hoc suspension calibration, 18 to 20″ wheels and four driving modes: Sport and Auto for everyday driving, Snow for when it snows, Sand/Mud for off-roading. Snow and Sand/Mud, in particular, are electronically calibrated to be poles apart: in Snow the system intervenes to calm everything down, while in Sand/Mud there are very high intervention thresholds to allow the wheels to even spin for free the blocks from the mud and thus have more traction. The plug-in hybrid variant, then, will have a dedicated electric driving mode, while on the 4×4 there will be 4WD Locks. All these modes are not simple color changes for the digital screens, but the car provides different sensations by intervening both mechanically and electronically on performance.

5 Jeep Compass: how it’s made, the development behind it

The prototype cars were tested for 1.5 million km on snowy, sandy, rocky routes and, of course, on asphalt, to improve handling in every situation. Although the technical base is the known one of the Stellantis group – and rereading the previous two paragraphs this is clear – Jeep wanted to give its own clear imprint to the car, preferring on-site tests rather than in the simulator. And despite sharing engines and platform, it is a Jeep Compass where the Italian know-how it is well established as it was designed by the style center in Italy, will be produced in Melfi (a chain synonymous with flexibility and quality) and has also been tested extensively in Balocco.

6 Jeep Compass: how’s it going?

More performing on all terrains, more versatile, more comfortable and more technological. Here is the summary of the new electric Jeep Compass which was the subject of the first contact, a car that changes a lot compared to the previous generation. The specific calibration of suspensions it allowed Jeep to claim 15% reduced vertical acceleration and 20% less body roll than before, for a more stable ride. And this is what you perceive behind the wheel of the new Jeep Compass, a Versatile SUVrobust, safe. It won’t be a sports SUV in the strict sense, but one capable of both pampering passengers with back massages and tackling slippery terrain with a certain ease. Steering feedback has also been improved, to offer more fluidity and a satisfying drive. Despite the improvements also from the point of view ofacoustic insulationwith an 11% thicker rear glass, aerodynamic noises at highway speeds are still perceptible.

7 Jeep Compass: prices

The price list of the new Jeep Compass starts from 39,900 euros for the e-Hybrid 145 HP version and from 47,900 euros for the 100% electric motorization, in Altitude trim. Both versions are offered, alternatively, with an installment of 249 euros and a variable advance depending on the engine, with Stellantis Financial Services financing over 36 months. The First Edition launch setup has list prices of 41,900 euros for the e-Hybrid and 49,900 euros for the electric.

8 Jeep Compass: pros and cons

Below are the advantages and disadvantages found on the third generation of Jeep Compass during the first contact with the car in Barcelona.

  • interior: practical and functional, as well as comfortable;
  • technology: in step with the times;
  • versatility: this is an SUV with which you can do almost anything.
  • all-wheel drive: only available with the top of the range EV;
  • navigator: not always precise, it is easy to get confused when approaching turns;
  • aerodynamic noises: noticeable at 120 km/h.
