The European Migration and Asylum Pact will become applicable in practice on Friday 12 June. The pact is the result of years of negotiations between the 27 member states. European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen called it “an enormous achievement for Europe”. NGOs, in turn, fear human rights violations and express strong criticism. It also remains to be seen whether there will be enough solidarity between the EU countries themselves.
