The documentary was announced this morning in De Telegraaf. Son Jordi Cruijff says in the newspaper that it contains images that have never been shown before.
First documentary since death
It is the first time since the death of Johan Cruijff that the family has cooperated in a documentary. There has been collaboration with Box-to-box media, the production company that is also behind the documentaries of Diegio Maradona, Ayrton Senna, Amy Winehouse and the Netflix series Drive to Survive.
The first two episodes of a four-part series will be shown during the premiere. Both episodes last 45 minutes. The first episode will be broadcast on NPO 1 one day after the premiere. The other three episodes will each follow a week later.
Audio tapes
The previously unseen material comes from the private archive of the Cruijff family. Audio tapes that Cruijff recorded in the last six months of his life are also used. He already knew at that moment that he had metastatic lung cancer.
According to De Telegraaf, Pep Guardiola, Frank Rijkaard, Ronald Koeman, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Xavi, Wim Jonk, Hristo Stoichkov, Willem van Hanegem and Dennis Bergkamp can also be seen in the film. FC Barcelona players Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are also said to have cooperated.
Record
In the newspaper, Jordi Cruijff says that he hopes the premiere will be the best-attended ever. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the current record is 43,624 visitors. The Arena can accommodate at least 56,120 people. “I have no idea whether it will be possible to sell out the Johan Cruijff ArenA. But that would of course be a deep bow to my father.”
