Aachen (dpa) – The new DFB President Bernd Neuendorf has gained positive impressions in the first two weeks in office. The 60-year-old was elected head of the German Football Association on March 11th.

Shortly before the start of the European Championship qualifier between the German U21s and Latvia in Aachen, Neuendorf praised the good cooperation on the ProSieben Maxx television channel.

“It’s going well, especially with the professional representatives,” said Neuendorf. He explicitly named Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke – head of the supervisory board in the German Football League – and DFL managing director Donata Hopfen. Both also belong to the DFB presidium. “We work well and closely together, and I think these are good prerequisites,” emphasized Neuendorf.

Regarding the perception of the national team, he said that certain changes have already taken place. National coach Hansi Flick is a “very calm, level-headed man,” said Neuendorf, who has already spoken to Flick. Flick’s influence has a positive effect, the team shows a certain closeness and openness and also positions itself politically. “I also believe that something is moving and going in the right direction,” said the DFB boss.
