Dave Gahan and bandmate Martin Gore have already spoken about new material. But the flow is different at the moment.

Dave Grahan has revealed what Depeche Mode’s future projects are after their last album “Memento Mori”.

In an interview, the singer spoke about his current attempts at composing and that he was still experimenting rather than actually recording something solid. “I deliberately try not to have any plans creatively in this regard,” Grahan told NME. “I pick up the guitar and rehearse, and when I hear a little chord progression, I pull out my iPhone and record it.”

As executive producer, he is currently focusing more on the musical career of his daughter Stella Rose Gahan, who was on tour across Europe in November. “I’m the father, so believe me – she’s putting up the walls and telling me to back off!” the 62-year-old admitted. “[Ich versuche]to have a little influence, but she has her own thing going on. She has a very powerful voice that I recognized when I was very young. I was shocked to hear her singing a Billie Holiday song in her room as I walked by. The intonation, the tone, everything was amazing.”

New album with Depeche Mode? Wait…

But couldn’t the longed-for songs bubble out of Grahan perhaps in combination with Martin Gore? The singer also commented on this: “Martin and I talked. We saw each other recently and it was really nice. We spent some time in Italy where [der niederländische Fotograf und Filmregisseur] Anton Cobijn and his wife renewed their wedding vows in a really beautiful place near Rome.”

But Gore doesn’t seem to be focusing on music at the moment either. “We had a really nice time without any work or show pressure,” revealed Grahan. “I actually asked Martin if he wrote and he said, ‘No!'” He added: “That’s normal – especially if you’ve been working hard for a few years. It takes a while. Wait and see. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of us getting together at some point, but at the moment that’s not planned.”
