New craters on the Moon after mysterious impact | Science

On March 4, a man-made object, for the first time unintentionally, slammed into the Moon. Afterwards, the LRO determined that there are two new impact craters. An eastern one is eighteen meters wide and a western sixteen meters.

According to CNN, astronomers are surprised that there are two craters. It suggests that the impact is the work of a large object.

What exactly that object is is still unclear. First there was talk of a staircase of an American Falcon launcher. China then contradicted the version that it was a stage of the Long March-3C launch vehicle that launched China’s Chang’e-5 Moon mission.

The double impact may be able to teach astronomers more about its exact origin, CNN said.
