New corona cases in Bavaria: Sané and Upamecano positive

Munich (dpa) – The corona worries at FC Bayern Munich are getting bigger and bigger shortly before the Bundesliga start of the second half of the season. Now Leroy Sané and Dayot Upamecano have also tested positive for the corona virus, as the Bundesliga club reported.

“Both players are doing well, they are in domestic isolation,” said the Munich team. There are now eight corona cases in the ranks of Munich professionals. The all-clear, however, was given to defender Josip Stanisic, as the German press agency learned. For all three actors, the diagnosis was not completed the day before – they had to retest.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann will have to open the second half of the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday with a short list. On New Year’s Day, Bayern reported the infections of Maldives vacationers Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman (Dubai), Corentin Tolisso (France) and Omar Richards as well as assistant coach Dino Toppmöller. Lucas Hernández and Tanguy Nianzou followed on Monday.

If there are more corona cases at Bayern, there is a threat that the game will be canceled on Friday. As soon as a club has fewer than 15 players (including at least one goalkeeper) who are eligible to play, the DFL can approve a request to cancel a match. All clubs had agreed on this regulation.
