At the age of 75, former Dutch national soccer coach Dick Advocaat is once again the head coach of his youth club ADO Den Haag. According to the club, he signed a contract until the end of the season.
Advocaat is to save ADO Den Haag from relegation from the second Dutch league. He succeeds Dirk Kuyt, from whom the club parted on Thursday.
“I will not deny that returning to ADO Den Haag is something very special,” said Advocaat. It may come as a surprise to some that he is now returning as head coach. “But I really couldn’t pass up this opportunity at the club I have so many memories of.”
In his long career as a coach, Advocaat looked after the national teams of the Netherlands, Belgium, Serbia, Russia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and most recently Iraq. The ex-professional coached Borussia Mönchengladbach for a short time from November 2004 to April 2005. Most recently, he worked as a consultant for first division club FC Utrecht until the end of June this year.
