New club for ex-BVB flirt Edinson Cavani

Uruguayan striker veteran Edinson Cavani is moving to Valencia FC on a free transfer. In the meantime, Cavani had also been linked to BVB when they were looking for a replacement for Sébastien Haller, who was suffering from cancer.

As the Spanish club around coach Gennaro Gattuso announced on Monday evening, the 35-year-old Uruguayan signed a contract until 2024.

After 200 goals in 301 competitive games for Paris St. Germain, Cavani moved to Manchester United in the Premier League in 2020, even then on a free transfer.

There, however, the center forward was not able to build on the goal quota from his time at PSG and at the Italian top club SSC Napoli (104 goals in 138 matches). His contract with the English record champions expired at the end of June.

Cavani found the net 58 times in 133 games for Uruguay. Most recently, the national player had expressed the wish to play for his home country at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
