New ceasefire agreement in Sudan mediated by Saudi Arabia and the US

The Sudan Army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group (FAR) have signed a new seven-day ceasefire agreement mediated by Saudi Arabia and the United States, aimed at ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid and guaranteeing the protection of civilian people and installations.

Under the agreement, signed on Saturday night in the Saudi port city of Jeddah, the cessation of hostilities in Sudan will take effect from 9:45 p.m. local time. Saudi Arabia tomorrow Monday (18.45 GMT), and “it can be extended after agreement of the two parties” in conflict, faced since April 15.

“The two parties agreed to facilitate the arrival and distribution of the humanitarian aidrestore basic services and withdraw forces from hospitals,” said a Saudi-American statement released by the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry.

“They also agreed to facilitate the access and safe passage of aid and humanitarian personnel to allow the support flow unhindered from ports to those in need,” he added.
