New build houses will be built in the former building of the Chinese in Buytenwegh

For years, Zoetermeerders from the Buytenwegh district won bami goreng special, tjap tjoy and baked banana at the Chinese restaurant on the Paul Scholtenrode. The striking red building in the Buytenwegh shopping center has been empty for some time after Chinese-Tipanyaki Restaurant Hong Yun stopped in March after 14 years. The building will soon be given a completely different destination.

The plan is that the former restaurant is being converted into a residential complex with four homes. The plans for the project lie with the municipality. After approval, construction can start in the short term.

Four owner -occupied homes

Administrator Frestate BV has asked the Zoetermeerse architect Ruud van Bochoven to make a design for new homes. The Chinese building remains, but the space turns into three lower houses and a maisonette.

Living on the water

The three lower houses of 80 square meters get a living room, two bedrooms, a complete kitchen and bathroom. They all get a back garden that runs in the direction of the water. At the end, a platform comes from where you have a view of the greenery. The Maisonette of 100 square meters is spread over two floors. The entrance and the bedrooms are on the first floor, the living area comes on top of the building.

Under the NHG limit

Sales prices for the four owner -occupied houses are not yet known, but are under the NHG limitthis was set at 450,000 euros in 2025. Construction starts after approval of the plans by the municipality. Joel Fresco van Frestate BV: “With a bit of luck, the construction can start this year. It is an existing building that we redesign, so the work takes shorter than with a whole new project. Before the summer we could have the houses ready.”
