“We have to object now, because there is a big difference in noise load between F35s and F16s,” says Alderman Remko van de Belt of the municipality of Texel. “We believe that the permit granted has not been granted correctly.”
The college says it would rather not want to litigate against another government, but feels compelled. The municipality has a few weeks to object and wants to do so before the annual consultation with Defense takes place. The goal is to make clear agreements about the noise load before that time. Then the objection can always be withdrawn. “The agreements that the municipality has with the Ministry of Defense currently offers insufficient certainty to guarantee the interests of Texel,” the municipal administration reports.
Clarity
Before a new permit is granted, there must first be more clarity about the consequences of the extra noise. Texel wants the new situation with the larger planes to be well measured. If this shows that the quality of life in the island is at stake, extra measures will have to be taken.
