New album “Renaissance” is part of a three-part art project

Beyoncé revealed more about her new album on Thursday, shortly before the release of her album Renaissance. Including that it is a three-part project. In a statement on her website, she also shared how the album came about. In her message, which also included photos of her and her three children, as well as a picture of her uncle Jonny, Beyoncé said she shot all three acts during the pandemic: “a time I’ve found to be the most creative.”

Beyoncé: Statement on “Renaissance”

“Making this album has given me a place to dream and escape at a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous at a time when otherwise little was happening. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgements. A place where you are free from perfectionism and reflection. A place to scream, let go, feel freedom. It’s been a beautiful journey of discovery.” She also thanked her children, Rumi, Sir and Blue Ivy, for “giving me the space, creativity and inspiration”. She saw her husband Jay-Z as “the muse who held me in the studio during the long nights”.

Her uncle Jonny was the first person “who introduced me to much of the music and culture that serves as inspiration for this album.” She alludes to the ballroom scene, which was dominated by black people in the 20th century and Latinos of the LGBTQIA+ community in New York City.
