Never expected so many ships in Ostend at Anchor
The maritime event can be organized again for the first time in three years, after corona. Hubert Rubbens, curator Oostende voor Anker: “We have 164 ships. We have never had so many ships. We have 120 stands. We also occupy the square at the Mercator.”
This year’s theme is the Portuguese navigator Magellan, the first to prove that the world was round. Just say the period of Charles V, 500 years ago. “We have a beautiful exhibition that will take place in the English church in the Langestraat. It will be about Magellan’s two-year sea voyage. A lot of Flemish people were there too.”
Real ships from that time no longer exist, but a lot of beautiful things pass by in Ostend. Sailing with historic ships will also be possible again. Ostend at Anchor takes place from 19 to 22 May.
