A last-minute victory for self-confidence: “We currently feel unbeatable,” said Lennart Karl about the emotions in the FC Bayern dressing room after his 3-2 winning goal against SC Freiburg in the 98th minute on DAZN.
After the interim 0-2 deficit, Tom Bischof equalized with two long-range goals within a few minutes (81st minute, 90.1), and in the eighth minute of stoppage time, Karl was spot on after a Davies cross. “It’s an amazing, indescribable feeling. I shot the ball in, then it went off,” said the winning goalscorer Karl on Sky and added: “This is a special victory.”
However, with a view to the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online), the late success covered up some poor form among Bayern stars, who are otherwise absolute top performers. Manuel Neuer in particular, who returned to goal after his calf injury, didn’t have a good day and received a grade of five from t-online. Kane reacted to his teammates’ success immediately after the final whistle in Freiburg. In an Instagram video he said: “Wow, what a comeback. It wasn’t easy, but what a mentality and what a victory.” After the final whistle, Bayern sports director Max Eberl was also optimistic that the Englishman would be able to be back on the field on Tuesday. “The physios are working on it. He’s constantly on site and being cared for. We believe it’s working.”
