The makers of the Netflix soap about Yolanthe Cabau must have breathed a sigh of relief when the influencer girl fell from a horse. “Because that was the most exciting part of what was in that first series.
You may wonder whether an American giant like Netflix has enough feeling for what people are feeling in a small market like the Netherlands. A soap about Yolanthe Cabau? Who the hell is interested in that? The first series was not a resounding success last year, but they are now coming up with a second series of episodes.
Fall from horse
Celebrity expert Bart Ettekoven did not see it coming. “It was a dubious success. Although she was in the Netflix top ten after one day, we all know that that is of course just a kind of fake thing,” he says at the desk of Show news.
The highlights of the Yo soap? Her move and her son going to the hairdresser. “And the low point was that she fell off her horse. I think the team that makes this series was very happy, as crazy as it sounds, when she fell off that horse, because that was the most exciting part of what was in that first series.”
Eyebrows
Bart has little confidence in the second series of episodes. “That does raise eyebrows, because that first season was not very high-profile and was a resounding success.”
TV authority Tina Nijkamp in an item: “It is striking, because channels often wait to see whether the first season will be a success, but at Netflix and other streaming services it is quite common for a deal for two seasons to be made immediately. This now turned out to be the case.”
Is Tina a fan? No. “I thought it was way too slick. She spoke in magazine language, in a lot of clichés, I thought.”
