The year 2023 holds some surprises when looking at the list of nominations for the Golden Raspberry. Big names like Jared Leto, Tom Hanks and Diane Keaton are nominated. Incidentally, one Netflix production received the most nominations: “Blonde”. The film about Marilyn Monroe was critically discussed right from the start.

The so-called “anti-Oscars” have been awarded since 1981. Often referred to as “Razzie” (short for the English “Raspberry”, which means raspberry), the negative award recognizes the less good performances and films in the industry. There are usually at least ten categories, although some are only part of the program on an infrequent basis.

In 2023, not entirely surprisingly, the Netflix film Blonde tops the list with a whopping eight nominations. The film could win the negative award in the categories “Worst Film”, “Worst Supporting Actor” (nominated twice with Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams), “Worst Screen Duo” (also twice) and “Worst Remake” for the “Worst Director ‘ and win the ‘Worst Screenplay’. This means that the film can win a maximum of six prizes. The previous record in this regard is held by Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” with a whopping ten Golden Raspberries. Absurd fun fact: Ana de Armas, on the other hand, was nominated for an Oscar for “Best Actress” for her performance as Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde”.

Of course, the entire award ceremony should be viewed with a wink. The trophy for the “winners” is a gold-coated plastic raspberry. It is voted on by hundreds of critics, journalists and other people in the film industry from around the world.
The ceremony traditionally takes place on the eve of the Oscars. Often the winners don’t take their trophy personally though; Exceptions like Sandra Bullock prove the rule. In 2010, the actress actually received the Golden Raspberry for her role in There’s Something About Steve – and the next day won the Oscar for “Best Actress” for the film “Blind Side”. She accepted both awards personally. It is not yet known which of the nominees will be there in person this year. In fact, acting legend Tom Hanks has been nominated three times: for his role in “Pinocchio” and twice for “Elvis”.
In addition to “Blonde”, Netflix is also represented with the two sequels of “365 Days”. With “Pinocchio”, “The King’s Daughter” or “Samaritan” other streaming services could also get the negative price.
