As if the 34:40 defeat against the Detroit Lions wasn’t annoying enough, the San Francisco 49ers are now also worried about quarterback Brock Purdy. After the NFL star injured his arm a good two years ago, it is now causing him problems again.

What had happened? Less than two minutes before the end of the game, Brock Purdy was brought down by Lions safety Brian Branch and was also caught unluckily by Pat O’Connor, who landed on his elbow. The game was over for Purdy after that. In the end it was 40:34 for the Lions from Detroit.

Although the San Francisco 49ers quarterback tried a few test throws off the field after an initial examination by the doctors, it didn’t go any further, as Purdy himself confirmed: “I was hit from behind and my arm felt like it was on fire. I tried to throw a few passes on the sideline, but it just didn’t work.”

Initial examinations do not indicate any ligament injuries

Initial investigations indicate that it is not a ligament injury. “We have some tests on the UCL [Band im Ellbogengelenk, Anm. d. Red.] and I’m fine there, but we have to have pictures taken tomorrow and look at the whole thing,” the 49ers star remained uncertain.

His coach Kyle Shanahan assumed a different type of injury: “The doctors told me they think it’s a nerve problem.” Teammate George Kittle tried to remain optimistic. “I’ll worry tomorrow if I need to. Right now I’m not worried,” the tight end said.

Of course, it is not the first time that Purdy has had problems with his arm: in January 2023 he suffered a serious injury, after which he had to undergo surgery on the ligaments of the elbow joint. At the time he spoke of a “shock from my elbow to my wrist.”

It is not yet clear whether Purdy will be fit again in time for the last game of the regular season or the playoffs.
