She was wearing three layers of clothing and had to shower with warmed water from the kettle. The 79-year-old Nel de Jong from Raamsdonksveer was without heating and hot water for almost three months. Only one day after Omroep Brabant brought her story, the problems were solved. “They didn’t say sorry.”
“Nice! I’m so relieved”, Nel can laugh again. It is more than 20 degrees in her living room. The last time it was only 15.5 degrees, even though her electric heater turned overtime. “I have lost all the stress,” says Nel, who seems a very different person on Wednesday afternoon.
“Never had so many men in the house.”
Nels central heating boiler broke at the beginning of November. Housing corporation Thuisvester posted a new one, but that also turned out not to be the solution. At least 12 times a technician came over. “I have never had so many men on the floor,” laughs Nel, like a farmer with a toothache.
The woman did not feel seriously taken by the housing corporation. An acquaintance of her called in from despair Omroep Brabant. A day later the solution was found.
Thuisvester indicated earlier to do the necessary, but emphasized that the problems were complex. “The gas pressure regulator in Enexis’s gas meter turned out to be broken. It has now been replaced and that seems to solve the problem, “says a spokesperson for Thuisvester. Network manager Enexis has not yet been able to answer questions from Omroep Brabant.
“I am much happier. I have a very different feeling,” laughs Nel, who is no longer wearing thick layers of clothes. Even Dorus the gray red -tailed parrot makes a lot of sound. “It is happy and whistle now! He thinks it is wonderful.”

Remarkably, there was also a gas leak in her street last Thursday. The fire brigade even had to be involved. According to Nel and Thuisvester, that leak has nothing to do with the problems in her house.
Nel has not yet dared to shower. She is still slightly traumatized by the last time. She washed herself with a washcloth. Still, showering will happen this Wednesday afternoon. “Totally great!” She says enthusiastically. “Then I will feel really good later.”
