Negligent homicide or defect? Carousel operator in court

Andrada (29) had no chance: a carousel threw the fairground helper to her death with full force. Now operator Sandra H. (49) is on trial for negligent homicide.

The daughter of the ride owner sat in the control cabin of the “Playball” carousel at the Potsdam Oktoberfest on September 29, 2019. “She didn’t make sure there were still people on the platform,” said the prosecutor, “then she accidentally pressed the wrong button.”

Andrada was able to hold on for five laps. Then she was thrown against a railing and died instantly.

The defendant did not appear at the first trial received ten months probation. She came on Monday.

Her defense attorney: “Ms. H. is innocent. The carousel had a defect.” Witness Christian R: “A few days earlier I saw how the ride could not be started.”

The prosecutor: “Even if the carousel started by itself, the defendant should have stopped it!”
