More than 380,000 euros in cash was found during an inspection of a car company in Tilburg. In addition, stolen goods, an electroshock weapon and pepper spray were found during checks on other car companies in seven municipalities in Central Brabant. Various violations have also been identified.

The checks at around 65 car companies were carried out between the end of November and the beginning of December in the municipalities of Goirle, Tilburg, Oisterwijk, Waalwijk, Gilze en Rijen, Dongen and Loon op Zand. The Administrative Intervention Team (BIT) carried out checks to see whether there was criminal interference with the car companies, such as storing weapons or criminal money and/or arranging transport.

The team’s inspectors found more than 380,000 euros in cash at a car company in Tilburg. The origin of the amount raised questions. That is why the police seized the money on suspicion of money laundering. It is being investigated whether there are any criminal offences.

Stolen scooter and motorcycle
Stolen goods such as a scooter and a motorcycle were also found at other companies in Tilburg. Two green license plates that had been reported missing were also seized from one of the companies.

At a company in Oisterwijk, inspectors found an electroshock weapon in the building. Pepper spray was found behind the counter of a car company in Tilburg. These have both been seized.

Fraud
Grid operator Enexis found fraud in the meter cupboard at four companies, involving illegal purchases of electricity, and gas fraud was discovered at two companies. The National Road Transport Agency found license plates of demolished cars at a few companies that should have been destroyed. There also appeared to be irregularities in the mileage of two cars that were for sale.

A number of companies had parked their trading stock on public roads even though they were not insured or inspected. In addition, fire safety was not in order at many companies and they did not meet environmental requirements. For example, there were no drip trays under separate batteries and liquids were not stored properly. The 39 companies in total must improve this and can expect a follow-up inspection.

The Administrative Intervention Team (BIT) consists of the seven municipalities in Central Brabant, the police, the RDW, Enexis and the Royal Military Police.
