According to Weydts, the interest is no surprise. “We can only encourage the enthusiasm of all these young people,” he says. “Young people who want to get a taste of Defense now have the opportunity to voluntarily join the army for a year. You make friends for life and learn what discipline and responsibility are. I still carry that experience with me every day.”
