NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder won against the San Antonio Spurs for the first time this season in the fourth attempt.

In the top game of the first against the second in the Western Conference, OKC beat the Spurs around young star Victor Wembanyama with 119:98. German professional Isaiah Hartenstein was still missing from Oklahoma with a calf injury.

“This team had beaten us in the last few meetings and that doesn’t usually happen to this team”said OKC superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander after the win. Last season’s most valuable player (MVP) led his team to success with a strong 34 points: “Today wasn’t our Super Bowl – it was just another game in an 82-game season.”

The Spurs inflicted three of seven losses on OKC

The previous three duels had all gone to Wembanyama’s Spurs, meaning they inflicted three of their first seven defeats on OKC this season. The Frenchman remained below his potential with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Champion OKC continued to pull away in the strong West and remains the measure of all things in the strongest basketball league in the world with 34 wins. The Spurs, the Denver Nuggets (both 27:13) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (27:14) as well as the Lakers (24:14) follow behind.
