The most valuable player of a season in the NBA will receive a trophy named after basketball legend Michael Jordan. This was announced by the North American professional league and introduced the new bronze trophy. A crystal basketball is held in the hand of the upstretched right arm.

The design refers to Jordan’s career, in which the 59-year-old won six championship titles with the Chicago Bulls and was honored five times as a so-called Most Valuable Player (MVP). Jordan almost always wore the number 23 on his jersey during his days as a collegiate player and professional player, this was also taken into account in the design.

Other awards were also named after great players from NBA history. They now carry the names of Jerry West, Hakeem Olajuwon, Wilt Chamberlain, John Havlicek and George Mikan. “Our new trophy collection celebrates some of the greatest and most influential players in NBA history,” said league president Adam Silver.
