For politicians who live on loose promises, it is probably a grateful term: ‘control over migration’. You throw it around all the time and give the impression that you are working hard to overcome a national crisis. ‘Grip’ means control, being in control, being able to determine the conditions for successful action, achieving the intended result. Grip means that you can get the job done: exactly the opposite of what The Hague does.
