Nations League against Iceland: higher hurdle for the DFB women

As of: October 30, 2023 8:45 p.m

The German footballers want to celebrate their next victory in the Nations League under interim national coach Horst Hrubesch.

In Iceland, the vice-European champions face a more difficult task on Tuesday (8 p.m.) than they did against Wales (5:1). “We’ll have to bite”Hrubesch warned his selection.

“We’re not here on holiday, we’re here to play football”said Hrubesch after being asked what impressions the team was able to gather in Iceland.

Second place behind Denmark

In order to maintain the chance of winning the group and thus a possible qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, three points are mandatory for the appearance in the manageable Laugardalsvöllur stadium in Reykjavík.

The DFB team is second in the group behind Denmark, only winning the group will keep their chance of taking part in the summer games. The supposed “final” against Denmark will take place on December 1st.

Schüller in the storm

In the absence of captain Alexandra Popp, who was missing against Wales, Bayern striker Lea Schüller will once again serve as the target player.

In addition to Popp, defense chief Marina Hegering (Achilles tendon problems) and striker Nicole Anyomi (knee problems) will also be out against the third-place team.
