National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open, the first grand slam tournament of the season, losing 2-1 to Talia Gibson from the host country.

World number 94 Zeynep faced Gibson, who is ranked 150th in the classification, in the women’s singles first round match of the tournament held in Melbourne.

The 22-year-old national tennis player, who was in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time in his career, won the first set with a score of 6-3.

However, Gibson, who won the next sets 7-6 and 6-1, left the court with a 2-1 victory at the end of 2 hours and 17 minutes and became the side that advanced to the round.
