Zeynep Sönmez advanced to the main table by beating Russian Anastasia Gasanova 2-0 in the final round of the qualifying rounds of the Australian Open, the first grand slam tennis tournament of the season. 23-year-old Zeynep, who is at the 112th place in the women’s world rankings, faced Gasanova, who is ranked 212th in the classification, in the final round match of the qualifiers of the tournament held in Melbourne. The national tennis player won the match, which lasted 1 hour and 29 minutes, 2-0 with sets of 6-3 and 6-2, and entered the Australian Open main table once again after 2025.
The 2026 Australian Open first round matches will start on Sunday, January 18.
